Job Description

Voleon is a technology company that applies state-of-the-art machine learning techniques to real-world problems in finance. For more than 15 years, we have led our industry and worked at the frontier of applying machine learning to investment management. We have become a multi-billion-dollar asset manager, and we have ambitious goals for the future.

Your colleagues will include internationally recognized experts in machine learning research as well as highly experienced finance and technology professionals. You will be working with strategies that are at the forefront of machine learning and statistical trading. The strategies have been carefully designed to generate non-correlated returns. Our firm and its strategies are the product of many years of meticulous research and craftsmanship, and you will lead the way in stewarding them for the future.

In addition to our enriching and collegial working environment, we offer highly competitive compensation and benefits packages, unparalleled access to our experts and founders, and more.

The Trading Operations group at Voleon sits at the crossroads of finance and applied science, collaborating with research and other production staff to supervise and improve systematic trading strategies. The team ensures that the outputs of our research efforts are successfully implemented in the real world. Domains of contribution include algorithmic execution, securities lending, and market expertise across a variety of asset classes and markets.

As an Associate Member of Trading Staff, you will rotate across our credit, equity, forex, and derivatives desks to learn each asset class and region we trade, and eventually assume ownership of our systematic trading programs. You will directly interact with both internal stakeholders and the broker dealer community. The collaboration and rotation amongst the team will enable you to become an expert in market microstructure and trading operations. Under mentorship from senior traders, you will build analytics and automation that enhance the level of sophistication and scale at which the firmwide trading program operates.

This role requires working US and Asian market hours from our Berkeley office.

Responsibilities:

  • Monitor high-volume execution algorithms and portfolio risk
  • Track real-time market developments
  • Interface with external brokers and trading counterparties
  • Contribute to the codebase underlying automated trading operations
  • Build processes and technology to prevent errors or outages while increasing team capacity
  • Provide insight and expertise to the research and development staff
  • Work global market hours for a portion of every year on a rotational basis

Requirements:

  • Demonstrated passion for markets
  • Proficiency in a programming language like Python or R
  • Experience using a Unix-like OS
  • Academic or practical familiarity with statistics
  • A skillset in data analysis and visualization
  • Bachelor’s degree in a scientific or quantitative discipline
  • Attention to detail and clarity of thought

The base salary range for this position is $100,000 to $130,000 in the location(s) of this posting. Individual salaries are determined through a variety of factors, including, but not limited to, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and geography. Base salary does not include other forms of total compensation such as bonus compensation and other benefits. Our benefits package includes medical, dental, and vision coverage, life and AD&D insurance, 20 days of paid time off, 9 sick days, and a 401(k) plan with a company match.
